The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation, a charity arm of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP), set up an undergraduate scholarship scheme at Guizhou University in 2004 to sponsor talented students from underprivileged families to pursue undergraduate degrees.  The aim was to help them fulfill their dreams of receiving college education, which would enable their families to break the cycle of poverty.  The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation is now extending the Guizhou University scholarship scheme for a third batch this year.  Total contributions to the three batches to date have amounted to about RMB13 million, benefitting about 1,000 recipients.

SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok said, “Guizhou University is among the first batch of mainland universities that the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has offered scholarships over the past 15 years.  Guizhou Province is at the forefront of the country’s anti-poverty campaign. The Foundation’s continued support to Guizhou University students has borne fruit over the years and it will stay true to its mission of contributing to the country, while spreading love even further.”

Guizhou University Party Committee Deputy Secretary Ling-hu Cai-tao recently led a delegation to visit SHKP’s headquarters.  She said, “A heartfelt thank you to the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation for their generous support.  Many Guizhou University graduates have found their dream jobs or have continued on with their masters or PhD studies.  As a result, many families have risen from poverty and now live a better life.  The scholarship students have also formed a student association to maintain connections with each other.  Guizhou University and the scholarship students are indeed very grateful for all the support from the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation.”

In addition, Amy Kwok stated that the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has offered scholarships at over 17 tertiary institutions in various mainland provinces, with nearly 10,000 beneficiaries to date.  The Foundation is currently working on a cross-campus exchange platform for scholarship graduates to share their career achievements and success stories in a bid to encourage the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation scholarship students.  It is hoped that the scholarship recipients will grow up together and make positive contributions to the society.

Since 2002, the SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has been committed to nurturing talented individuals from the country by offering financial assistance to promising students from disadvantaged families so that they can complete their undergraduate studies.  The Foundation has set up scholarships with renowned universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-Sen University, Tianjin University and Guizhou University as well as education bureaux in various cities such as Zhongshan.  There are also subsidies available for studying post-graduate courses abroad and for overseas exchanges to broaden students’ horizons.  The SHKP-Kwoks' Foundation has also organized more than 30 training schemes across some 20 provinces.
