SHKP Reading Club launches new reading platform 'Read for More'
The first feature story provides a reading list from 365 Hong Kong celebrities

2019-01-18

Entering into 2019, the SHKP Reading Club under Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) has adopted a brand new approach to promote reading. The first initiative this year is to revamp its online reading platform under the new name 'Read for More'. With this new platform, the Club will strengthen its line-up to produce high-quality content targeting young readers. The SHKP Reading Club will also organize a range of offline activities that enable readers to interact with popular, renowned authors.

The brand new reading platform, 'Read for More' (《點讀》) (www.readformore.com), was launched today (18 January). The Chinese name of 'Read for More' (《點讀》) has multiple meanings including 'click to read', 'how to read' and 'what to read'. This indicates that 'Read for More', which can be accessed by the public anytime with smartphones or tablets, will provide diverse topics as well as lively, interesting ways to discuss books.

Every day is a reading day in your own way

In the first 'Read for More' feature, 365 Celeb Reading List, 365 Hong Kong celebrities each from a different field recommends an interesting book, resulting in perhaps Hong Kong's longest celebrity reading list. For example, movie director Pang Ho-cheung recommends The Seven Good Years; Esperanza founder John Tsang chose The Catcher in the Rye; St. Hilary's Primary School and VNSAA St. Hilary's School Chief Principal Chu Tsz-wing suggested The Education You Don't Know (《你不知道的教育》); Pei Ho Counterparts founder Ming Gor recommends Leveraging Happiness: Interviews of Happy Lives (《幸福「槓桿」:快樂人生訪談錄》); and Uncle Siu's British English Club President Uncle Siu recommends Do You Want to Play with My Balls?. This list aims at encouraging the public to seek books that they find interesting during the year ahead. (Please visit www.readformore.com/365celeb_readinglist.pdf  for the full reading list.)

The first feature interview of 'Read for More' was with actor, action choreographer and movie director Chin Ka-lok. In the interview, Chin revealed that he envies bookworms the most. He considers reading a source of inspiration that helps with movie production, and he believes that Ang Lee's imagination, Wong Kar-wai's aestheticism and Derek Yee's skilful character portrayals can all be attributed to their extensive reading habits.

Leading readers into the world of books through multimedia

In 'Book Lovers', a section of 'Read for More', popular authors including Ong Yi-hing, Sirena Cheng and Blue Godzi will engage in literary gossip with readers. In another section,  'Daily.Life', a group of bookworms and travel veterans will talk about books and their daily lives. In the 'Bookshelves' section, different authors and publisher representatives will recommend good books through video clips while 'Listen for More' provides audio clips of excerpts from selected books to spark listeners' imaginations.

SHKP Director of Corporate Communications Chris Liu said, 'Now after its fifth anniversary, the SHKP Reading Club is looking to adopt new strategies with a new image to promote reading. This new reading platform "Read for More" brings together different authors and creators who share the same vision as the SHKP Reading Club. We hope to inspire even more exciting ideas and spread the pleasure of reading among young people.'
