SHKP’s Kai Shing and Hong Yip win Energy Saving Championship awards for energy conservation measures

2017-06-13

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited’s (SHKP) property management subsidiaries Hong Yip and Kai Shing won an impressive 16 awards in the first Energy Saving Championship run by the Environment Bureau and Electrical and Mechanical Services Department.  The Aria, International Commerce Centre (ICC) and Landmark North developments won top Hanson Grand Awards in the residential, office and shopping mall categories.  The independent judging panel further recognizes Kai Shing and Hong Yip for Hanson Supportive Group Awards in these categories.

Motion-sensitive lights reduce energy use in Aria

Hong Yip’s Royal Elite carefully manages energy use at Aria.  Staircases have reduced lighting with motion sensors that turn up light intensity when people enter, which has reduced energy usage by 20% last year.  The development is part of the Energy Saving Charter and pushes the eco-friendly theme with No Air Con Days and green product workshops that encourage residents to save energy at home.  The initiatives won a Grand Award in the residential category.

Over 60 residences, offices and shopping malls under Hong Yip took part in the Championship, with most initiatives based on clear and simple energy-saving principles.  Some estates have motion-sensing and high-efficiency lighting or adjustable fresh-air ventilation, or have removed unnecessary lighting from car parks.  Hong Yip has made great strides over the years to help the environment with responsible management in its properties.

Intelligent ICC energy-efficiency system

Intelligence, collaboration and continuity guide Kai Shing’s green management at ICC.  The building has a smart system that analyzes data to control the operation time and sequence of air conditioning units and lifts, resulting in reduced energy use and carbon emissions that impressed the judges.  ICC also puts on workshops with tenants and coordinates with professional groups, vendors and universities on energy saving.  The building has ISO 50001 Energy Management System and ISO 22301 Societal Security – Business Continuity Management Systems certifications for its international operating standards and continued efforts in environmental protection.

Landmark North saves energy with water-cooled air conditioning

Landmark North promotes energy efficiency with hardware upgrade and innovation.  It has replaced air-cooled air conditioning with a water-cooled system and the number of units running depends on the weather.  Double entrance doors help keep out summer heat, and lights are gradually being replaced with energy-saving LEDs.  The mall set a target in 2010 of reducing annual consumption by 30% in a decade, the target is nearly reached earlier than planned with last year’s figure.

The Energy Saving Championship recognizes organizations that adopt energy-efficient technologies and equipment, optimize energy use, develop best management practices and promote energy saving among tenants or users.  It encourages prudent energy use for greater efficiency, less waste and less pollution, to reduce the impact on an already overstressed environment and combat climate change.
