SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation endows a scholarship of over RMB 10 million to sponsor underprivileged students entering Fudan University and those studying abroad

2014-09-24

As a charitable arm of Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP), the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation has collaborated with a number of mainland universities over the years in support of talented students who are financially constrained.  Recently a second donation tranche for Fudan University on the mainland has been endowed to continue providing scholarship funds for underprivileged students entering the University.  Together with an initial scholarship grant, the Foundation to date has donated more than RMB 10 million to the fund.  At the same time, a new scholarship scheme to help Fudan students study on overseas exchange programmes has also been set up this year by the Foundation.  It offers recipients opportunities to study at renowned institutions abroad in order to develop broader life perspectives.

Since 2002, the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation has provided subsidies for students with limited financial means at a number of universities on the mainland, including Fudan University.  A donation ceremony was held recently with SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok and Fudan University Vice President Feng Xiaoyuan as officiating guests.  At the ceremony, the second tranche of sponsorship funds was officially launched to continue supporting this meaningful scheme.

Amy Kwok said, “The Kwok family believes that education sets the foundation for the future.  The SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation has therefore taken a proactive role in collaborating with different universities on the mainland to enable students to further their studies at the tertiary level.  Throughout the years, we’ve seen many student beneficiaries who’ve experienced enormous positive changes in their lives, making impressive achievements and fulfilling important roles in society.  This year, the Foundation has also set up a scholarship for Fudan University students to participate in overseas exchange programmes, allowing them to broaden their horizons and gain valuable international exposure.  I sincerely hope that these Fudan elites will treasure this opportunity and strive for higher goals in life.”

From the University’s side, Mr Feng expressed his gratitude to the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation for its long-standing support of Fudan University.  He also revealed the destinations of previous scholarship graduates, which offers a very encouraging outlook; a third of them have furthered their studies on the mainland while another third have found employment and the rest have continued their studies abroad.

The Foundation has been sponsoring students from Fudan University since 2006, assisting 500 students to date to complete their studies. With the introduction of the second donation tranche, the size of the scholarship fund has grown to over RMB 10 million.  This year, a special scholarship that subsidizes Fudan University students joining exchange programmes at distinguished institutions overseas has also been set up for the first time.

Since its establishment in 2002, the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation has remained devoted to the aim of nurturing talent on the mainland by providing financial assistance to underprivileged students who have demonstrated the academic potential to complete their university courses.  In addition, the Foundation offer support to those who look toward studying at overseas universities on exchange programmes for rewarding life experiences.  Scholarships have been set up at major institutions across the mainland, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University, Tianjin University, Sichuan University and Tongji University.  A number of scholarships have also been launched at the local education bureau level like the one in Zhongshan.  These subsidies have benefited over 6,000 students throughout the years.  At the same time, the Foundation has supported over 30 professional training projects in more than 20 cities or provinces across the mainland, totalling over RMB 350 million in donations.
