SHKP Volunteer Team comes second in Highest Service Hour honours

2011-12-29

The SHKP Volunteer Team under Sun Hung Kai Properties took second place in the Highest Service Hour awards (Private Organization – Category 1) given out by the Social Welfare Department.  SHKP encourages employees and their families to join the Team and serve the community.  Team membership surpassed 1,800 in the past year and they put in over 78,000 hours of service.

The annual awards recognize the contributions volunteers make to the community in their spare time each year.  SHKP Volunteer Team Chief Leader Michelle Leung said: “Our membership has been growing since the team was set up, and this award encourages us to continue with our efforts to care for the needy.”

The SHKP Volunteer Team participates in a wide range of long-term initiatives such as visits to the elderly, a home refurbishment programme, the Building Homes with Heart Caring Initiative for the needy and Clean Shore Action to promote environmental protection.  There is also a junior Sunshine Team to get young people involved in volunteer service, including children of SHKP staff and the beneficiaries of Child Development Fund’s Sun Tin Mentorship project.
