New V City mall atop Tuen Mun Station to redefine shopping and entertainment

2011-10-17

Sun Hung Kai Properties will build a major new shopping mall in Tuen Mun named V City.  The project will be in a superior location atop the Tuen Mun MTR station and will cost close to HK$2.5 billion.  The excellent geography and development potential will make V City a new landmark in the New Territories West and will offer a special V City = Veeling Good shopping experience.

New mall and leisure concept

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Executive Director Jimmy Wong said: “Sun Hung Kai has a lot of experience in developing shopping malls and is keen to introduce creative designs and unique themes.  The new V City mall atop the Tuen Mun MTR will be a special new attraction.  Statistics show that the New Territories West has grown in recent years and its residential population has reached two million, which is 28% of the total population in Hong Kong.  Consumers between 20 and 39 make up 35% of its population.  There will be over 2,000 new apartments above Tuen Mun station in the near future, so there will be a remarkable demand for a large shopping mall in the district.  Tourists from mainland China have also given local retailers a huge boost in revenue in recent years.  Tuen Mun is only ten minutes away from Shenzhen Bay Port and the number of cross-border visitors to the district has grown 27% from 16.85 million in 2009 to 21.38 million in 2010.  V City will be in the centre of a district with such strong potential for economic growth that we believe the project will attract over 100,000 visitors per day when it opens.”

Over 80% new merchants for Veeling Good

Mr Wong continued: “The V in V City stands for VIVA, to create a lively and vibrant landmark.  It has been ten years since there was a new shopping mall in Tuen Mun, and V City will introduce new and foreign retailers to Tuen Mun to cater to target customers.  The planning, design, service and facilities in V City will give residents new dynamics and a unique leisure concept of V City = Veeling Good.  We believe that this new retail operation will satisfy young consumers and tourists with an innovative shopping experience.”

Merging railways and footbridges

Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Assistant General Manager (Leasing) Evelyn Suen said: “The new V City mall atop the Tuen Mun MTR will have a gross area of 300,000 square feet with over 130 shops on three floors.  The shops will range from 300 to 8,000 square feet and the whole project will be complete near the end of 2012.  The mall will merge the advantages of the West Rail and Light Rail and serve as a transportation hub with over 50 shuttle bus routes to residential estates, cross-border buses and more.  The project will also have indoor footbridges connecting places like the Tuen Mun West Rail terminal, Light Rail stations, Tuen Mun City Hall and San Hui, attracting more New Territories West residents and mainland tourists.”

300 metre divided in six zones

V City was designed by the renowned Benoy architectural firm.  The outer wall will be 300 metres long and the designer has used extra-large windows for its design.  The transparent, bright environment will connect with the outdoors and create a comfortable and spacious shopping area with a 3.7-metre high concourse and six-metre pedestrian passage.  It will also have the largest LED display in the district that can change images to match the current theme of the shopping mall and provide the latest information about special offers, promotions and activities.

V City will group shops into six zones: Veeling Better — Veeling Beautiful, Veeling Elegant, Veeling Trendy, Veeling Tasty, Veeling Energetic and Veeling Relaxed for fashion, beauty and healthcare, jewelry and accessories, electrical appliances, restaurants, and supermarkets.  The developer will additionally work with tenants to create innovative designs and operations, offering new leisure ideas and limited editions of products at different retailers.  The Veeling Good concept will give a new shopping experience to customers.

V City and its attractions have attracted over 300 enquiries since the first phase of preliminary leasing.  The enquires have come from renowned retailers including international fashion names and popular restaurants.  The developer will spend over HK$10 million for marketing and promotions locally and on the mainland to make New Territories West a significant new shopping focus for Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
