2011-08-31

SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation Executive Director Amy Kwok and Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government Vice Mayor Tang Ying have signed a second scholarship agreement for Zhongshan City to provide financial aid to disadvantaged students.  Also at the official signing were Foundation Director Kwong Chun, Zhongshan Municipal People’s Government Vice Secretary-General Zheng Xiangrong, Zhongshan Education Bureau Director Liu Chuanpei and other representatives of Sun Hung Kai Properties and Zhongshan City.

This is Foundation’s only scholarship programme at a prefectural level on the mainland.  Amy Kwok said: “We are pleased to help financially-disadvantaged students pursue university studies.  We believe in training talented people for the good of the nation and hope that the students will make the most out of this learning opportunity and contribute to society in the future.  People are the nation’s most important asset and the Foundation will continue to support their development.”

The first seven-year scholarship programme was set up in September 2006 to provide financial aid for 80 university students up to July 2012, and the Foundation has now committed RMB 1.6 million for a second programme from 2011 and 2017 to provide deserving students RMB 5,000 each a year.  The entire programme will benefit 160 students with RMB 3.2 million in sponsorship.
