SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation funds disadvantaged Gansu students and completes waterworks projects to meet daily needs of local villagers

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) established the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation to nurture the young generation in keeping with the company’s ideal of Building Homes with Heart.  The Foundation promotes educational development in Hong Kong and has extended its reach to the mainland including subsidizing disadvantaged students in the nation’s poor western region to pursue higher education.  Additionally, the Foundation has helped bring clean water to a rural community to improve living conditions for local families.

Dingxi in Gansu Province is among the poorest regions in the nation and the life of local villagers is hard as they have limited access to potable water.  The SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation was concerned about their health, so it supported the construction of two waterworks supplying drinking water to the villages in 2017.  The projects were finished recently, and the local government put up a plaque to thank the SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation for its generous donation.  Representatives of the Foundation visited some of the beneficiaries to learn more about their situations, and expressed satisfaction at being able to provide clean water for the villagers.

The SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation representatives later met more than 200 Lintao Middle School scholarship recipients in Dingxi, Gansu and gave bursaries for the 2017-2018 academic year.  20 beneficiaries with outstanding academic results were also given scholarships at the meeting as encouragement and recognition of their achievements to motivate them to strive for improvement and good performance in the college entrance examinations.

The SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation has helped bring clean drinking water to 10 farming villages in Lintao and Ningyuan serving over 1,000 households since 2015.  It also established a scholarship programme in Lintao Middle School to provide three years of tuition assistance and living allowances, enabling over 200 financially disadvantaged but deserving students complete high school education and benefitting over 600 students.

The SHKP-Kwoks’ Foundation is committed to nurturing talent in Hong Kong and on the mainland, and has been helping outstanding students with limited means complete undergraduate studies since it was established in 2002.  The Foundation offers scholarships at renowned institutions including The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University and Tianjin University.  It also provides grants to Education Bureau in different cities and subsidizes students to study abroad or join overseas exchange programmes to broaden their horizons. More than 20 provinces have benefitted from over 30 training schemes sponsored by the Foundation.
