SHKP's ION Orchard and City Art Square win top honours at Quality Building Awards

2010-06-24

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) won top honors at the Quality Building awards for the third time in a row this year, including a Grand prize for ION Orchard in Singapore (Outside Hong Kong category) and a Merit award for the City Art Square in Sha Tin (Community Institutional Facilities category), in recognition of SHKP’s premium quality. The prestigious biennial Quality Building Awards (“QBAs”)are highly regarded in the industry.

The QBAs are presented by nine professional organizations in Hong Kong, including The Hong Kong Institute of Architects, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, The Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Construction Association and The Hong Kong Institute of Housing, etc. They are considered some of the most significant honors in the industry recognizing building excellence. The judging criteria include quality, design and innovation, cost control, environmental sustainability, customer satisfaction, operation and maintenance after completion.

SHKP’s joint-venture ION Orchard won a Grand award in the new Project Outside Hong Kong category. It is a modern addition to the retail scene on Orchard Road, and its innovative design, construction, tenant mix and customer service have attracted many well-known international retailers and boosted shopping in Singapore. The favorable response from retailers and customers shows that SHKP has successfully transferred its mall development experience to Singapore.

The City Art Square is a community art project by SHKP, and it was the only project to win a top Merit honour in the Special Awards category: Community Institutional Facilities. The project was praised by the judges for uniquely integrating the efforts of the government, business and artists to create exceptional art installations displayed against a backdrop of outdoor recreational space. The Square features original sculptures and art installations by overseas, mainland and local artists and designers. Interactive elements in the displays make this a new cultural rendezvous in Hong Kong.

SHKP’s Peak One was selected as a finalist in the Hong Kong Residential category. It emphasizes the integration of the property with its surrounding natural ambiance, and has an advanced vertical garden covering 180,000 square feet to provide residents with a green living environment.
