The Group is
actively involved in environmental protection. Through
Green Valley Landfill Limited and South China Transfer Limited,
the Group works for a cleaner, greener Hong Kong.
Green Valley Landfill Limited
Green Valley Landfill Limited designed, built, operates
and is responsible for the long-term aftercare of the
South East New Territories (SENT) landfill, which has
been in operation since September 1994. It occupies
a 100-hectare site, with a capacity of 43 million cubic
metres, and can handle 10,000 tonnes of refuse each
day. The landfill processes municipal, construction
and chemical waste, and it is the only landfill in Hong
Kong capable of treating industrial waste and stabilized
chemical waste. Sophisticated technology is employed
to minimise the environmental impact of the refuse,
with an on-site bio-gas plant incorporating a leachate
management system to prevent unacceptable leachate migration
off-site into the surrounding environment.
South China Transfer Limited
South China Transfer Limited was granted a contract
to build a station on a 2-hectare West Kowloon reclamation
site, and has been in operation since December 1995.
The station can process 2,600 tons of waste a day. The
company also provides pollution monitoring control tests,
as well as serving as a refuse transfer station. In
May 2000, the facility started to collect and transport
Drainage Services Department sludge.
The station's catchment area spans West Kowloon, Tsuen
Wan, Tsing Yi and Kwai Chung, and it is Hong Kong's
largest transfer station.
