The Manpower Developer Award Scheme is the first in Hong Kong to assess companies on effective training, development strategies and practices. It promotes awareness of the importance of on-the-job training and life-long learning, and recognizes companies that stress training and development. Advisors on the scheme were noted members of the continuing education sector and professional groups. They assessed companies according to leading a learning culture, resource planning, training and development systems, performance management and commitment to corporate social responsibility in manpower development.
SHKP's diverse training initiatives
Talented employees are the foundation of SHKP's business. The company combines western and Chinese management concepts and offers an ideal working environment for its 31,500 staff, along with various training programmes to let people develop their full potential and encourage life-long learning. SHKP puts on more than 300 training courses and seminars every year, covering a broad range of topics such as leadership skills, business strategy, mainland economic development, customer service, personal development, technical skills, stress management, mental health and more. Turnout is good with over 10,000 places filled. SHKP also has diverse self-learning programmes on its company intranet for the convenience of staff.
SHKP has tailored support and coaching for high-potential staff. It has had Management Trainee and Engineering / Surveying / Architectural training programmes for high-calibre university graduates for many years. Experts and overseas scholars are invited to address employees, and SHKP sends senior executives to Harvard University each year to study and enhance an international perspective, helping drive SHKP's success.
Hong Yip People Development Academy
Hong Yip has won Employers' Platinum or Gold Star awards from the ERB every year since 1999 and has the most wins among all companies. It set up a training academy in 2007 to offer special classes, online training and workshops for employees of various divisions to raise their skills and explore their potential as part of a long-term manpower strategy. Hong Yip was also the first with a landscape training programme for property management staff to learn more about horticulture.
