Sun Hung Kai Properties' Kai Shing Management Services and Hong Yip Service Company were big winners in this year's Source Separation of Domestic Waste Competition organized by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD). The two subsidiaries won over a hundred awards for outstanding eco-friendly management, making them two of the biggest winners. Among others, three of their estates emerged as three of the six winners of the Diamond awards which were top accolades to recognize the best performers in recycling rates.
Half the Diamond awards
The competition began in 2005 to encourage estates to separate domestic waste at source, and it has since been popular. Kai Shing and Hong Yip are known for excellent property management and flexible green measures. Good resident relations also contribute to greater participation in green activities. The two companies won 149 honours in the latest programme, including three of the six Diamond awards given out for 127 Repulse Bay Road, Villa Verde and Lei On Court for highest recycling rates.
Aegean Coast managed by Kai Shing and Scenic View under Hong Yip won awards for innovative promotions that secured residents’ participation. Aegean Coast and Hong Yip-managed Villa Verde and Park Central won awards for the biggest increases in quantity of recyclables.
Comprehensive green management
Kai Shing and Hong Yip promote concern for the environment in the over 250,000 households across Hong Kong. Their estates have flexible designs to allow placement of 15 types of waste collection boxes. Large publicity campaigns in some estates helped attract enthusiastic participation and boost recycling.
