Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) encourages environmental protection and healthy living in the community, and it will sponsor the Ngong Ping Charity Walk for the fourth year in a row in 2010. The walk will be on January 17, along the Ngong Ping Trail on Lantau. The annual event is an opportunity for hikers to appreciate the splendour of nature in Ngong Ping and learn about the ecology of Lantau. It also lets people test their abilities and understand the importance of environmental protection.
The 2010 Ngong Ping Charity Walk is being organized by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association and Ngong Ping 360, and is sponsored by SHKP. Chairman of the Organizing Committee Terry Liu said: "The Ngong Ping Charity Walk is in its fourth year. This year’s theme is parent-child hiking, so we have mapped out routes to suit hikers of different fitness levels and let them appreciate the beauty of nature. Hikers will be able to challenge themselves and have a day of fun away from the city with their families."
TV stars Wong Hei and Toby Leung Ching-kei, hiker Chung Kin-man and China Polar Museum founder Rebecca Lee Lok-sze will be this year's ambassadors. Ms Leung said: "The 2010 Ngong Ping Charity Walk will be a very special event – like an outdoor classroom where hikers will see a number of natural and heritage attractions. I'll go with my father to support the parent-child theme. I would like to see people come with their families too." Dr Lee said: "Environmental protection is a global concern, and the Ngong Ping Charity Walk is an international event with overseas teams participating to share our vision with people from around the world."
