Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) cares about the environment. Well designed and maintained landscaping is an essential element of SHKP efforts to create premium living environments for residents and raise aesthetic standards in estates. SHKP recently won 20 of the Best Landscape Award 2008, including a grand award and six golds. The Ma Wan Park Nature Garden won three awards including a grand award of excellence and a gold in Landscape Design plus a gold for Horticultural Maintenance.

Strict assessment

The Best Landscape Award 2008 were organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and other government agencies and professional groups including Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects and Professional Green Building Council. Assessments were based on visual and landscaping quality, sustainability, positive impact on urban living, user participation and interaction, maintenance and more. The Ma Wan Park Nature Garden came out top among 315 entries.

Over 90% greenery

The Ma Wan Park Nature Garden combines themes of nature, education, art and love. Over 90% of the 5.6-hectare park is covered in greenery. Levered paths built along the hills are among the initiatives to keep the ecology and native plants intact, preserving thousands of native trees and offering a lush natural environment for visitors.

The Windmill Station uses renewable energy like solar, wind power, ground heat, hydro and biomass systems to power some the Park facilities, cut down on pollution from conventional power generation and provide a database for research on conservation and enhancing environmental awareness.

Other SHKP projects also awarded

SHKP employs some of the finest horticulturalists in Hong Kong to plan the green spaces in its developments. It has systems to manage every aspect of horticulture from weeding and seeding to fencing and equipment maintenance. A number of SHKP residential developments were recognized in the competition for outstanding green design and maintenance.
