SHKP promotes environmental protection
Staff volunteers and SHKP Club members help at Mai Po

2 July 2008

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) cares for the environment and incorporates green concepts in all aspects of its business. It also encourages the residents of the 250,000 households under its management, tenants of its 50 malls and 60 industrial developments, 27,000 employees and 270,000 SHKP Club members to go green. SHKP volunteers recently helped in a project to remove plants that jeopardized local wetlands. The SHKP Club also arranged for its members to see the flora and fauna in the wetlands to promote environmental awareness.

Removing invasive species

The Mai Po Nature Reserve is listed a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. Ipomoea Cairica and Bougainvillea in Mai Po are sapping the earth of nutrition and threatening native plants and the food chain. A crew of 50 SHKP volunteers recently helped with the labour-intensive task of clearing the weeds and digging ditches.

SHKP Club members committed to green living

Over 5,000 members have enrolled in SHKP Club green activities this year. A recent Mai Po tour drew nearly 200 to see the rare wildlife and plants up close. Guides explained the gei wais, mangroves, reeds and migratory birds. The tour taught members about nature and inspired them to make personal commitments to green living.
