The Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) Volunteer Team performed 11,400 hours of service in 2004-05. This was 3,000 more hours than the Team achieved in 2003-04 and proof of its dedication to helping the community. SHKP Vice Chairman & Managing Director Raymond Kwok, who is also Team captain, spoke at the second Volunteer Team Recognition Day to offer his encouragement and praise for the enthusiastic staff who sacrificed their time to do volunteer work.
Mr Kwok said he was proud of the social commitment shown by SHKP staff. The Volunteer Team was set up just two years ago, but membership has grown to over 900. Mr Kwok thanked team members for devoting their valuable time to charity and expressed his hope that Team members would continue to spread love and care.
Team leader Michelle Leung said that four sub-teams were set up in 2004 to focus on the elderly, youth, home maintenance and people with disabilities, to coordinate the Team's efforts to serve different segments of society.
Numerous awards were presented on Recognition Day, including the Social Welfare Department's Gold, Silver and Bronze awards, Highest Participation award and Highest Departmental Participation award. The presentations were followed by a vocal performance by the Team and Hong Kong Society for the Blind.
The Team took part in various activities last year, including the Pak Tin Estate Home Inspection programme for single elderly people, the Buy a Bear to Show Your Care fundraiser for mentally-handicapped children, Hong Chi Climbathon fundraiser for the Hong Chi Association and the Angel Smile Creative Parade Carnival in which hundreds of young people took part. The Team will keep looking for new worthwhile activities to serve people in need.
