SHKP supports Hong Chi Central Plaza Climbathon
Staff runners and volunteer team help fund raising

14 September 2004

Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) supports a variety of charity events and helps the community in various ways. The developer is now sponsoring a Climbathon up Central Plaza being organized by Hong Chi Association. The Association is a non-profit group that helps the mentally handicapped in Hong Kong. SHKP is entering a team of ten experienced runners in the race and its Volunteer Team will help raise funds in SHKP malls and take care of organizational matters on the day of the event.

The Hong Chi Climbathon will be held this Saturday (September 18) in Central Plaza, a joint-development by SHKP and the Sino Group. SHKP has assembled the best runners among its staff to form the 'Building Homes with Heart' relay team and compete with other corporate teams racing up the 1,688 steps in Central Plaza's 75 storeys.

SHKP is supporting this meaningful event to show its compassion towards the mentally handicapped and their families, and to help the Hong Chi Association's efforts to help people with mental handicaps realize their full potential, integrate into the community and lead meaningful lives. All the funds raised by the event will go to help the Association provide services for children and adults with mental handicaps, such as lunch subsidies for school children from low-income families, job training for young adults and public education to promote understanding and acceptance of people with mental handicaps. The Association operates over 60 service units that look after more than 6,000 people with mental handicaps annually.

This will be the first Climbathon at Central Plaza. Members of the public will be able to enter the Mass Walk Challenge to the Central Plaza Apex if they secure a minimum sponsorship of HK$800. Once at the top, people will be able to take in the panoramic view of Victoria Harbour.

The Hong Chi Association has been raising funds in eight SHKP malls since late August, with the SHKP staff volunteer team and mentally-handicapped students working hand in hand to support their integration into the community. The mall fundraising will continue through October.
