New ICC Light and Music Show summer sports theme honours Hong Kong athletes
The ICC Light and Music Show produced by Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) graces Victoria Harbour every night. This new attraction on the facades of International Commerce Centre combines music and an animated story with a Love Hong Kong message. The premiere show had an ‘amazing spring’ theme and now a new ‘sporty summer’ features a brilliant animation of ten different sports to honour the perseverance of Hong Kong athletes and local people’s diligent spirit, representing the pride of Hong Kong.
Sports theme shows Hong Kong spirit
The ICC Light and Music Show was recognized with a Guinness World Record certificate in April this year as the largest light and sound show on a single building. It tells inspirational stories of Hong Kong to locals and tourists. The new show for summer turns the ICC facade into an animated sports ground. Sun Hung Kai Real Estate Agency Retail Marketing and Customer Relations Deputy General Manager Cris Fung said: “We are proud of Hong Kong athletes’ significant success in international competitions including cycling, windsurfing and table tennis. Our city also hosted the Olympic equestrian events and international rugby matches. ICC’s sports theme recognizes Hong Kong athletes’ dedication and demonstrates local people’s hard-working spirit.”
Upbeat music and sports
The new animation shows athletic prowess in ten land and water sports: windsurfing, table tennis, cycling and badminton that Hong Kong excels in, the equestrian, dragon boating and rugby that the city has hosted and Hong Kong favourites football, running and archery. It is accompanied by upbeat music and special effects to encourage people to get active this summer.
The show will play every night at 7:45 and 9:00. The best locations for viewing are the P3 and P4 public terraces of IFC Mall, where there is advanced audio equipment broadcasting the music in sync. People can also download the ICC Light and Music Show smartphone app to get sound while they watch the show from the Victoria Harbour shoreline.
Production by SHKP and noted designer
The nightly spectacle is the brainchild of Hirohito Totsune, a renowned Japanese lighting designer with achievements recognized by an international lighting design association. This was his latest project after the Tokyo Skytree lighting. The ICC show was a challenge requiring highly-detailed graphics, and the SHKP’s construction team worked with Mr Totsune and his team to create almost a thousand sketches for the animation that fills the 50,000-square-metre facades by a computer programme controlling each LED at 30 frames per second. The result is a beautifully rendered animation that surpasses traditional lighting.
